I must live under a rock because I had actually never heard FRENZY - a Portland outfit with members of NERVESKADE and BOG PEOPLE that has been releasing music for over a decade - until I saw them play a show in New York last year. I can't remember the last time I had the shit kicked out of me that hard by a band I wasn't familiar with. Unusual setup with two bass players and one guitar player. The bass holds down the lead parts and main riffs while the guitar adds a layer of noise, follows along, tosses in some solos. The drumming also feels like it has a unusual approach; it's heavy, aggressive and stompy, but to my ear a lot of the fills and build-ups are very creative and add a ton to their transitions.
FRENZY isn't eclectic or gimmicky. But they don't sound like anyone else, and they also are good enough songwriters (both in each members' abilities to write infectiously catchy parts and in their ability to craft interesting songs) for an LP format to work. The recorded form does not do them full justice; go see them play in person if you get the opportunity. Also sorry that the download is the entire LP as one file.
FFO: Hardcore punk of the 1980s as played in Japan, the UK, US west coast, maybe Sweden idk. Disclose, Heresy, Shitlickers etc. Depends on the song
